Blogging For Dummies A few years ago, one of my children bought me a book for Mothers Day - Blogging For Dummies - because he couldn't find a book titled Blogging For Middled aged Women. I thought he'd lost the plot when he gave it to me; me? Write? I haven't written anything other than letters or emails since I left school. Why on earth would anyone want to hear what I had to say?
The thing is, my children were leaving home, we were in the middle of a major financial crisis as we'd recently had a company go into liquidation and subsequent bankruptcy. We'd sold everything prior to the liquidation to try to keep the business afloat, moved across the country to be closer to family, then moved again because we hated being in Sydney.
Actually, if I'm perfectly honest, we moved again because I hated being in Sydney. John loved it. Anyway, it had been a pretty dire few years and I wasn't in the best mental & emotional state. I began writing, though I didn't make any of those pieces public, then I joined a program to learn how to build an online life coaching business and, a few years later, here we are.
We're here to make the impossible, possible for ourselves and hopefully for you! I say "we" here because although I'm the one who's doing the writing, I team up with my husband, John, and brother, Alan, to do the Stop Being So Poor YouTube channel and the Stop! radio station (More about the radio station soon!).
John and I have done some really... interesting... things financially. We've been (and still are!) highly successful property developers with over $100 million worth of our own developments under our belt. We've owned several business. We've gone through bankruptcy. We've tried our hand at any number of get-rich-quick schemes, we've bought our fair share of lottery tickets and we've found ourselves seriously in debt and wondering how on earth we're going to get out of the financial hole that we've dug ourselves in to. We know an awful lot about creating wealth - we've created a LOT of money - and we know an awful lot about keeping wealth. And while we've done really well in the 'creating wealth' bit, we haven't done much about the whole 'keeping wealth' thing.
Now, we're changing that and we'd love for you to join us on our journey to becoming debt-free and hopefully get some ideas about how you'd like your life to look and how to go about changing it. We are here to help you:
Learn how to budget without feeling like you are being punished
Focus on your goals so that you can make stuff happen
Plus, on top of that, we get to look at the madness and mayhem that is Menopause, Marriage and Motherhood and see the funny side of life as a middle aged, (almost) empty nester.
A bit of background... John & I got married in 1991 and moved to Australia, and it obviously had some strange effect on our fertility because we then had four children. After a very rocky start to our Antipodean life (both of us were out of work for several years), we've gone on to do okay, having completed a fair few property developments with another 3 in the pipeline at the moment. I'm kind of involved on the periphery of those, i.e. I stay out of it unless John drags me in.
I've tried my hands at many things over my life, including a lot of things in the construction industry (I have a degree in Quantity Surveying), life coaching, swimming coach, writing and motherhood. At heart, I love creating so I paint, I sew, I mix essential oils, I write, and I love physical activity just as much, so I'm a swimmer, horse rider, gymmer, former mountain runner and lots of other things.
I've spent the last few years trying to figure out what I want to do now that the kids have mostly fled the nest. Once I got over the guilt of neither wanting a job (heaven forbid) nor a regular business (such a grind), I started enjoying myself and creating things (mainly written things) purely for the pleasure of it. And suddenly, I'm finding that life is much more fun that it was...
Come along and join us in creating a bit of fun in our lives...
