I’ve done a lot of this transformational work, courses, seminars, journalling, clubs, tribes, whatever. I’ve been teaching how to get rid of all that crap and create & live a life you love for almost as long.
Yes, you CAN have a life you love,
Yes, you CAN have whatever you want,
Yes, you CAN BE whoever you want to be,
Yes, you CAN make a difference in the world
And NO, it’s not going to be all roses and sunshine and butterflies.
I hate to break the news to you
But defining the life that you actually want to have,
the one that inspires and excites you,
the one that fills you with joy,
IS THE EASY BIT!
Once you’ve done the difficult part of getting past all the crap that’s hanging round in your head, it’s an absolute joy to create something new, something that you love.
BUT THEN YOU HAVE TO GO OUT AND DO THE WORK THAT ENABLES YOU TO LIVE THE LIFE YOU LOVE!
And guess what? Your life right now looks NOTHING like your perfect life.
So how do you deal with that? How do you change, transform, the life that you have right now into the one that you want.
BY PUTTING IN THE WORK
You have to put in the work. There is no other way.
It’s not going to be easy.
It’s likely to be difficult,
Have a think about this: you’ve built up the life that you have right now over years, possibly decades. Do you think changing everything about it is going to be all about writing about what you want, sticking some pictures up on a piece of cardboard and then writing out your goals and TA-DA! It’s done? A new life!
Yeah, it’s so not like that.
What’s going to hit you is the hard fact that changing something that’s been ingrained in you for years is usually hard work. You have to constantly remind yourself of what it is you actually do want because you’ll find yourself sliding back into old ways and habits. It’s easy to do things the old way because you’ve been doing it for a very long time. You’re on familiar territory treading familiar paths with the old ways.
The new way is an uncharted slog through dense jungle.
You get tired and disheartened and you want to give up.
It would be so easy to go back to the old ways, so much less effort.
Yes, it would.
Much less effort.
But what happens then is that you get back the life that you’ve had so far and you’ve already identified that THAT ISN’T THE ONE THAT YOU WANT!
You know that. You know that the old life didn’t inspire you or excite you, quite the opposite: it was sucking the life out of you, bringing you down and you felt like you were dying.
So you need to remember just how much you didn’t like your old life AND just how inspirational your new life is when you’re in the middle of those “down” times.
Remember what it was like in your old life: grey, lifeless, dull, a blur, unhappy, sad, whatever.
Now picture yourself in the middle of your new life: vibrant, full of energy, full of joy, where anything is possible.
And break through the jungle because if you keep doing it, those overgrown, non-existent paths you’re treading into your new life now will become the ingrained paths of your future and it will be EASY to be in your new life, so much so that your old life will be incomprehensible to you, you won’t be able to imagine EVER living that way or why you’d want to.
So you’re going to have to push through the discomfort. It’ll pass
But it will only pass if you grit your teeth and keep on moving towards the life you want to have.
One step at a time.
Grit your teeth.
It will all be worth it in the end, you already know that.
